![]() When things didn’t quite work out during the filming, Hans pulled his Golf off the movie set and onto the streets of Miami. He was invited by an American production company that had asked to use his above-mentioned Golf for a film about super tuned vehicles. In the spring of 2002, Hans came to Florida. To put it bluntly, Hans Dahlback is no ordinary tuner - even in North America, and VWvortex especially, he and his black Golf IV RSi are the stuff of legends. Dahlback’s ultra-modern facility in Borlange, Sweden has seen the biggest names in the tuning industry pass through its doors and Hans rarely fails to impress even the most jaded or hardcore amongst them. His influence runs deep and it’s no exaggeration to say that he has the constant attention of Germany’s most recognized manufacturers. His talent and his ability to think outside the box enable him to build concepts that appear to be drawn more from nature and less from product catalogs or OEMs. Hans Dahlback has long been recognized as one of the brightest minds in aftermarket performance engineering. But as most small business owners know, there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do when each day is consumed by all the things you have to do. Sweden’s Hans Dahlback was the man Tim kept hearing about, and he knew that somehow, someday, he needed to team up with him. Year after year, Tim often heard about a Scandinavian tuner who was said to be regularly breaking new barriers in the world of VW and Audi tuning, and huge horsepower numbers were his specific claim to fame. ![]() ![]() He decided to pursue the help of the one man who Tim believed could provide the products he and his customers were looking for. He simply wasn’t happy with the run of the mill products that were stocked by most US tuners, himself, included. Tim made a great deal of progress with NEA, but ultimately he was dissatisfied with being unable to provide a true power alternative for his unique clients who were looking to push the high performance envelope when it came to VW/Audi tuning. Though considered one of New England’s top Porsche mechanics, Tim’s devotion to Audi and Volkswagen called him back to the fold and ultimately drove him to open his first shop – Northern European Automotive. It was there that his focus moved to Porsche vehicles and his formal training continued with Anderson/Woods. After six years as a lead tech and earning Master Technician titles from VW and Audi, along with being frustrated by countless bureaucratic dealership decisions, Tim decided it was time to work for an independent. He graduated from New Hampshire College with an Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology in 1987. He is renowned for his technical savvy, his commitment to his customers, and he’s been a licensed mechanic for more than 17 years. Tim McLean is a tuner from Concord, New Hampshire. Every success story in America starts with a struggle or a seemingly insurmountable task. Every great business has a story behind it.
